Black Sabbath

It was good news when we found out Jonathan would be working with Zip Design on the new Black Sabbath album cover. 13 is Black Sabbath’s first studio album for 35 years.

The concept is iconic, and it was felt by all the team that the best way to achieve it was ‘for real’. Shooting in late February, we decamped to a farm in North Buckinghamshire. We were very lucky to have a clear sunny day, though the temperatures were close to zero. The crew were all very glad when, at last, the fire was lit for a bit of warmth.

It has also been great to see the filming Jonathan did on set has now almost reached 500,000 views on youtube!

The single ‘God is Dead’ is out today (19th April), and we are now looking forward to the main release along with deluxe versions and special edition box sets on 10th June.

The creative director was Neil Bowen, and the designer was Nick Dart. Post-production was by Gareth Pritchard.

Smirnoff Cranberry & Lime

We created a lot of mess shooting our hi-speed liquid photography with JWT on this Smirnoff Cranberry & Lime ad. It has been great to see it out and about.

We worked with the fantastic creative director, Christiano Neves, who has recently been made Head of Art at JWT London.

We worked with the very talented artist Elliott Quince to produce this still life photography shoot for our Easter card.

Elliott painted our spaceship egg, with a spaceman looking out of one side, and an alien out of the other. Jonathan had a lot of fun in the studio creating the rocket stream from egg yolks, and the smoke from egg whites; no waste at all!

Our First Platinum Prints

We were pleased to see our first platinum prints arrive in the studio last week.
As ever we went to our friend Jack Lowe to print these portraits of Roger Kennedy and Richard Myers.

Roger and Richard, or R and R Creatives, are an incredible creative team with an enviable portfolio. And now some rather beautiful head shots.

FT Charity Print Auction

Jonathan was flattered when the Financial Times invited him to auction a print alongside the likes of Cecil Beaton, Jane Bown and Tom Stoddart.
The evening was a huge success with over £169,800 raised for the Global Fund For Children.
And we’ve just received a lovely calendar to remind us of the night. Thanks FT.

The May Fair Hotel

As the winter weather approaches, Jonathan’s new campaign for the May Fair Hotel is getting us in the festive mood. In this still life shoot for Team Saatchi, Jonathan worked with creative team Marissia Thomadaki and Roslyn Waud, and creative directors Eoghain Clarke and Matt Hearn.

The elements creating the snowflakes within the globe are all items related to the offer being made by the hotel. We are very grateful to Tim Weare for his painstaking model making of the globe and the hotel (working from real architectural drawings), and to Gareth Pritchard for his post-production and patience with each snowflake.

50 Shades of Grey

Jonathan worked with DLKW Lowe creative director, Helen Rhodes, to create this series of dust covers for the 50 Shades of Grey series of books by E L James. The books are known for their ‘mummy porn’ read, so these dust covers with titles such as ‘Fifty Trades of Clay‘ and ‘Fifty Raids of Malay’ will hopefully hide some blushes on the tube!

End of Time – featured in 125 Magazine

You may have seen ‘End of Time’ Jonathan’s latest personal project in the 20th issue of 125 Magazine.

It was accompanied by Phillip Goodfellow’s fascinating interview with leading Futurist Paul Saffo, which is worth the cover price alone.
